Lungo di Napoli
Very impressive squash and vine! Fruits are quite oblong, shaped like something between a butternut and banana squash, large, often 15-20 lbs. (50+ recorded) with dark green skin which ripens to a dull orange. Flesh is intense orange with excellent, rich, even sweet flavor, though texture is not as fine as butternut. Vines are huge, sprawling, and far more resistant to powdery mildew and squash bugs than most cucurbits. Needs a long growing season or early start indoors to reach full size, 100+ days. Old heirloom from Italy. Large, oblong-butternut shaped fruit, also of the species Cucurbita moschata, typically weighs 20-35 lbs., 55.4 lbs. documented, in rich soil might be able to reach 80 lbs. or more.
